NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics To Pursue Andrew Bogut?

The Boston Celtics, as it is, are a good team.  With a 12-8 record and are currently on a two game winning streak, the Boston Celtics are in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.  But that hasn't stopped Boston Celtics General Manger and President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge from exploring possible trades to further improve the roster.

It's no secret that the Boston Celtics are in need of rebounding.  It has been a problem for the past several years.  Even though the acquisition of Al Horford, who signed a four year $113 million contract during the off season, has helped the Boston Celtics' defense considerably, the bottom line is that Al Horford is not a good rebounder and shot blocker.

That's why the Boston Celtics are looking to add a defensive-minded, rebounding big man.  One possible target the Boston Celtics are looking into according to the latest rumor is the Dallas Maverick center Andrew Bogut.

A former number one overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks back in 2005, Andrew Bogut is in the final year of a three year, $36 million contract he signed with the Golden State Warriors back in 2014.  He is due to earn $11.027 million this season.

Players with expiring contracts like Andrew Bogut are great assets to have especially for teams looking for a salary dump in order to create cap space next summer.  That's why it would make sense if the Boston Celtics does pursue Andrew Bogut, even if the Australian is already 32 years old.

The Boston Celtics are not taking a gamble in acquiring Andrew Bogut.  The player they would most likely give up is Amir Johnson plus a future draft pick.  With Amir Johnson's $12 million salary this season, the Boston Celtics could do a straight-up deal with the Dallas Mavericks.   In return they get a good shot blocker and rebounder in Andrew Bogut.  Plus Andrew Bogut's expiring contract.

If the Andrew Bogut experiment doesn't pan out, the Boston Celtics could always trade his expiring contract or let him go next summer and have enough cap space to sign top free agents.

While no deal is forthcoming, the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks could both benefit from this trade.  The Boston Celtics would get a player that could provide them what they need right now.  While the Dallas Mavericks would get a player and a draft pick that they could build on in the future.
