‘Pokemon Go’ Latest News & Update: Niantic Reverts Gym Battle Prestige Points; Christmas Event Imminent?

Avid "Pokemon Go" players can now enjoy the mobile gaming app's higher prestige point rewards following the changes that Niantic deployed. Recently, the gaming company deployed a quick patch that returned the prestige points to its original values.

Niantic reverted the prestige points to its original reward matrix following various feedback from the "Pokemon Go" gaming community. In a message posted on the game's official Facebook page, the gaming company announced the changes that it made to the mobile gaming app. The announcement read, "Trainers, the amount of Prestige gained when training at friendly Gyms has been reverted back to the original values."

The gaming company deployed the changes to the prestige points in early November, along with its daily bonus program. However, the tweaks that Niantic made to "Pokemon Go's" gym battle system frustrated many players since it lowered prestige points from 1,000 to 500 if a gamer trains at friendly gyms.

With the recent changes, avid "Pokemon Go" players can spend more time training their Pokemon through friendly gym battles. Strengthening a friendly gym will also take less effort given Niantic's decision to cancel its November prestige point changes.

Meanwhile, many players have been looking forward to new "Pokemon Go" gaming events. Following the successful release of various challenges and special events during the recent Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays, gamers are awaiting for news of the mobile gaming app's speculated Christmas event.

Moreover, given the gaming company's plans to release interesting in-game activities for "Pokemon Go," as previously revealed by Niantic's CMO Mike Quigley, several players' interest in the game have been rekindled. With the company's plans to mix fitness, exploration and building social networks in future developments, upcoming enhancements to the game may include a diverse combination of activities and features.

Niantic deployed its recent "Pokemon Go" changes on Dec. 5. Learn more about gym battles in the clip below:
