'Star Wars: Rogue One' Rumors, News And Updates: 'Rogue One' Is Better Than 'The Force Awakens' According To George Lucas

We're still a few days away from the release of "Star Wars: Rogue One" but some have already seen an early cut of the movie. One of those fortunate ones to have the privilege of watching "Star Wars: Rogue One" is none other than "Star Wars" creator George Lucas himself. And based on his reaction, "Star Wars: Rogue One" fans will be pleased.

In a report from CNET, director Gareth Edwards told reporters that George Lucas only recently saw "Star Wars: Rogue One" and George Lucas gave the film his blessing. "I don't want to put words into his mouth, but I can honestly say that I can die happy now, (Lucas) really liked the movie, so it meant a lot" director Gareth Edwards said. The director then said that George Lucas's review is the most important considering who George Lucas is to the "Star Wars" universe. The director said that George Lucas' opinion means a lot to him.

However not all of the post-Lucas "Star Wars" movies were equally praised by the iconic director. When asked about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" George Lucas didn't have the same glowing praise that he had for "Star Wars: Rogue One." He said that fans are going to love "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" while George Lucas, would have taken a different approach if he was the one making it.

Despite the glowing reviews "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" received upon its release, criticisms were also made as to how the new film is somewhat different take of the first film released from the saga. Some were saying that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is the same as "Star Wars: A New Hope" but told differently for a new generation of fans. Director J.J. Abrams defended his decision by saying that he didn't want to mess with a classic formula to formally introduce the new fans and not alienate them. Nonetheless, basing on George Lucas' review of "Star Wars: Rogue One" we can assume that Rogue One is a better film than The Force Awakens. The fear of a standalone "Star Wars" not holding up to the main entries should at least be lessened with George Lucas's review.

"Star Wars: Rogue One" hits theaters on December 16, 2016. Stay tuned for more updates.
