'The Lunch Witch' News and Updates: Kate McKinnon Will Play the Lead

It looks like things are looking up for "Saturday Night Live's" frontrunner Kate McKinnon. Since her stint as one of the main performers in "Saturday Night Live" for the past four years, she has gotten into project after project, including parts in movies like "Ted 2", "Sisters" and "The Angry Birds Movie". More notably, she was also in the latest all female version of Ghostbusters along with Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy and "Masterminds" with Zach Galifinakis and Owen Wilson.

Kate McKinnon's is slated to star as the cold-hearted Grunhilda who inherits a magic cauldron and recipes in "The Lunch Witch". She puts the cauldron and her newly discovered powers in terrorizing students in the school where she serves as the lunch lady, a job she was forced to take since her set of skills won't qualify her for any other job, since people do not believe in "magic" anymore. She then meets a shy student who needs help in school and at home and the two form an unlikely friendship, despite the fact that this goes against everything she knows as a witch.

This will be Kate McKinnon's first lead role after having playing mostly supporting roles in her previous films. "The Lunch Witch" will be directed by Clay Kaytis. This will be his first live-action movie after having co-directed "The Angry Birds Movie", in which Kate McKinnon also starred. "The Lunch Witch" will be based on Deb Lucke's children's novel and will be produced by Michael De Luca.

Kate McKinnon's most popularly known as playing Hillary Clinton, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and other oddball characters in "Saturday Night Live." Along with her "SNL" day job, Kate McKinnon is also in the Sony ensemble comedy "Rock that Body". She will also appear in "Office Christmas Party" opening on Dec 9.
