'Good Girls Revolt' Cancellation News & Updates: Networks Lining Up To Renew Cancelled Series

"Good Girls Revolt" Cancellation News and Updates: Networks Lining Up to Renew Cancelled Series

Just thirty days after its release at Amazon, the Sony Pictures Television period drama "Good Girls Revolt" was unceremoniously cancelled by the retail giant. Since then, networks have been expressing keen interest in reviving the Dana Calvo created feminist series for its second season.

Sources say that major networks like ABC, USA Network, Lifetime and Bravo are eyeing to get the show on their respective timeslot rosters while digital platform outfits like Hulu and Netflix are also interested in continuing "Good Girls Revolt."

Amazon cancelled the series on Friday on what was considered to be a very strange move because ratings were not a very important part of the renewal equation since it was a 10-episode show made available simultaneously through the online streaming service.

The show's creator Dana Calvo was very vocal about her disappointment for the cancellation citied that the two deciding factors were a "good Rotten Tomatoes score ("Good Girls Revolt" was 96 percent Fresh)" and the ability to entice audiences to buy from the Amazon store (the show was driving 55 percent, which is a good score).

Sources also indicate that "Good Girls Revolt" had twice the number of viewers as "Transparent", another Amazon show about a transgender man and father, considered Amazon's most important show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios Chief Roy Price was never a fan of the show and did not deem the show having awards potential.

The timeliness of the cancellation was also just as curious as its abruptness. The ambitious, trailblazing lead characters of "Good Girls Revolt" in a male dominated workplace in 1969 paralleled the same spirit of female empowerment being shown by Hillary Clinton's run for breaking the "highest glass ceiling." Just as everyone's virtual bubble burst after the Trump victory for the White House, the show's chances for being viewed by wider audiences died. Check out the trailer for "Good Girls Revolt" below:
