One of the biggest names in showbiz, Emma Watson, will star in the upcoming Sci-FI thriller 'The Circle'. However, she was not the first choice to take on the role of the protagonist.
Ever since her debut in the Harry Potter Films, Emma Watson has been turning heads and catching the eyes of directors and producers alike. She has certainly caught the eye of director James Ponsoldt, one of the most looked-out indie directors who made movies like "The Spectacular Now", and "Smashed". Now, he's heading the Sci-Fi thriller 'The Circle' and Emma Watson and Tom Hanks playing the lead characters.
The production of this movie started a year ago and surprisingly, Emma Watson was NOT the first choice to play the protagonist. In fact, their first choice was Alicia Vikander. Vikander stars in movies such as Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, and Jason Bourne. When the movie first started production, not much is known of it but there were news that talked about her participation in the upcoming Sci-Fi thriller. She just finished her film Ex Machina which supposedly gave her a staple in the Sci-Fi thriller genre. Her next project would have been 'The Circle'.
She did not have any hard feelings with her being replaced by Emma Watson as it was her choice in the first place. Vikander chose to sign up with Bourne 5. 'The Circle' is not the only movie she had to drop but the video game adaptation 'Assasin's Creed' as well.
'The Circle' is a Sci-Fi thriller based on the novel written by David Eggers. It revolves around a girl named Mae Holland who is hired for a job in an Internet company called The Circle. The Circle links a person's e-mails, social media, banking, and other personal information in a universal operating system designed to give a person one online transparency. Emma Watson plays Mae Holland and gives out a very convincing role and showing others that even if she was not the first choice, she still delivers well.
The Sci-Fi thriller talks about social media, its dangers, and effect on the privacy of others. 'The Circlce' is set to show in cinemas this coming 2017. The production just released its new trailer showing appearances by Tom Hanks and John Boyega.
