Greg Lake, 'Emerson, Lake and Palmer' Singer/Guitarist Dies at 69

Greg Lake, the co-founder of "Emerson, Lake and Palmer" died after battling cancer. He was 69.

Gregory Stuart Lake, or simply Greg Lake, was one of the original members of the progressive rock bands "King Crimson" and "Emerson, Lake and Palmer". He was also a bassist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer.

On Thursday, his manager, Stewart Young, confirmed the news on "Emerson, Lake and Palmer"s official facebook page, BBC reports. In his post, he said Greg Lake lost to a "long and stubborn battle" with cancer. He added that the singer's family asks for privacy at this time of grief.

Furthermore, according to Us Weekly, Carl Palmer posted a statement as well on the passing of Greg Lake. He said his bandmate will be remembered by everyone -- especially those who knew his music as well as his recordings with "Emerson, Lake and Palmer" and "King Crimson".

Moreover, just nine months ago, one of the members of "Emerson, Lake and Palmer", Keith Emerson also died. Reports say the singer committed suicide because he feared he was no longer good enough. He died at the age of 71.

Furthermore, Greg Lake first joined "Unit Four" in 1965 before becoming a member of "King Crimson". He played cover songs as the band's singer and guitarist. He and "Unit Four's bassist, Dave Genes, then formed a group called "Time Checks". He was also a member of "The Shame".

Greg Lake befriended the then future "King Crimson" leader, Robert Fripp. When Fripp formed "King crimson", he chose Lake to be the singer and bassist. While on a tour, they met Emerson and from there, they became friends.

It was in 1970 when Greg Lake left "King Crimson". He reunited with Emerson to form a group. Eventually they recruited Palmer and named their band "Emerson, Lake and Palmer".
