Need for Speed: Rivals News - Modders Push Out Temporary Fix for 30fps Lock Issue [VIDEO]

Are you one of the many Need for Speed fans irritated by the fact that the newly released Need for Speed: Rivals is locked at 30 frames per second? Then this latest revelation might interest you. According to reports, a temporary solution has been pushed out by modders that deals with the 30fps lock issue for the game on the PC.

Recently, member BetA posted a link on a Guru3D forum post that offers a workaround solution to the 30fps issue that has plagued many PC gamers running Need for Speed: Rivals wanting to get the game at 60fps.

While the new mod is set to allow players to run the game smoothly at 60fps, players must maintain a constant 60fps at all times to take advantage of the workaround, or else the game will suffer from side-effects like movement in slow motion or even fast forward issues.

Basically, Rivals doesn’t have an option to run native 60fps. The game has been hard-locked to 30fps so as to maintain cross-platform equality with the versions of the game running on home consoles with the introduction of the new ‘AllDrive’ system.

First noted via Reddit user Kudoboi, BetA claims that PC gamers will need to add the following parameters in the game’s shortcut to enable the game at 60fps:

“-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60″

Once applied, PC gamers will be able to run the game at a smooth 60fps, although, as mentioned earlier, the nature of this workaround will require the player to maintain a constant 60fps at all times.

The post for the same states:

“u need the Frames to be ROCK Stable..
lets say u make this command with 60/60.
Now when u are in-game but have only , say , 50 fps mostly cause of performance issues, low OC, or simply the PC you are using isn’t strong enough, then the game speed will change."

"50/60 than means, that the game plays SLOWER. that’s also why the game with only the FPS command runs faster, since the gameSpeed is still at 30!!”

As far as an official fix is concerned, EA’s community manager recently wrote in one of EA forums: “Running at 30fps provides a smooth experience when driving in this open world powered by AllDrive. We are listening and targeting 60fps in the future."

Cinemablend explains the situation perfectly: “Why? Because it's ported from the home consoles where the game is hard-locked to 30 frames per second. Why? Well, because the Xbox One and PS4 are trying to hit the Holy Grail of console gaming resolution at 1080p and in order to maintain performance fidelity at that resolution, the developers, Ghost, had to hard code the frame rate to the game's operating clock cycle.”

“Why? Because if the game starts dropping frames due to on-screen activity, it's still going to output at 30 frames per second without slow down,” it adds.

Check out the trailer below to see the game running at 60fps.

Need for Speed Rivals released this November for PlayStation 4, PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
