Xbox One News: Microsoft to Offer Free Game For Faulty Consoles, Banning Profane Users

Microsoft Says You Are Entitled to a Free Game if Your Xbox One is Faulty, Takes Issue With Vulgar Language

While those who are reporting some troubling problems with their new Xbox One seem to be in the minority, a broken console is still a broken console, and it's time for Microsoft to do some damage control. It's being reported that the Redmond giant is willing to make amends to those who purchased a faulty Xbox One by offering said owners a free game of their choice, as an apology of sorts.

According to an e-mail Microsoft sent to Polygon, users who have picked up defective consoles will be entitled to pick up a free game of their choice from four Microsoft published titles: Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Zoo Tycoon.

“While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game," Microsoft's e-mail stated. "We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."

It's unknown if Microsoft's free game scheme will depend on a certain type of malfunction or territory. We hope it’s for everybody since malfunction and faults don’t really depend on which part of the planet you are in.

This is surely good news for affected owners, but it seems like another wave of problems is just beginning.

It has also been reported that users are being banned from using the Skype and Upload Studio apps on Xbox One over the use of so-called vulgar language.

A host of users have reported that after uploading gameplay clips where the users used profanity, their Xbox One is now preventing them from using the app with a message that asks them to "choose something else to play" because of their "past behavior." Likewise for gamers who used profanity via the Skype calling feature.

Microsoft has released a statement for the same where a company rep wrote: “To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls. Also, we take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users.”

“Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live. We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members,” the statement adds.
