Homefront 2: All That We Know So Far

Homefront 2 from Crytek: A Guide to Everything We Know So Far

Homefront 2 is the upcoming FPS title that’s currently under development by Crytek UK, taking over for the now defunct THQ, and published by Crytek. The game is set to be the sequel to 2011's Homefront and will make use of the fourth generation CryEngine tech.

While not much is known about the game as of now, owing to its early 2014 or 2015 release, it was revealed back in December 2012 that previous developer THQ had filed for bankruptcy under the protection of chapter 11 before Crytek UK finally took up the game.

Before all these issues with THQ went by, the company did form a strong alliance with Crytek back in 2011 to develop the game in collaboration.

"Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry's best talent," Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ stated, according to the official press release. "Homefront's unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek's industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand."

“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek added.

"We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."

Later, however, Crytek acquired the Homefront franchise during a sale of the company's assets for only $500,000, replacing THQ as the game’s publisher.

As mentioned earlier, we've yet to get anything substantial as far as in-game details are concerned. However, if looking for a potential story for the game, it can be guessed for the moment that the new game’s plot will pick up from that of the first game.

And if that’s so, Homefront 2 will pick up after the year 2027 where the world is currently “unraveling after fifteen years of economic meltdown and widespread global conflict over dwindling natural resources,” according to the same press release.

Currently abandoned by her former allies, the United States is now a bleak landscape “of walled towns and abandoned suburbs. This is a police state where high school stadiums have become detention centers, and shopping malls shelter armored attack vehicles. A once-free people are now prisoners ... or collaborators ... or revolutionaries.”

While anything that we say at this point about the game is nothing short of speculation, we are guessing that the new game will surely look to be a more multiplayer oriented title rather than being a single-player one.

Release platforms for Homefront 2, however, are yet to be revealed.
