'Elite: Dangerous' PlayStation 4 Release Date, Latest News & Update: PS4 Version to Arrive With Virtual Reality Support? Frontier Eyeing Early 2017 Launch?

The demand for the PlayStation 4 release of "Elite: Dangerous" has finally been heeded. Recent reports also suggest that the game's PS4 version will be powered with virtual reality support.

In a blog post on the official PlayStation page, Frontier CEO David Braben said, "I'm thrilled to announce today that 'Elite: Dangerous' is coming to PlayStation 4. Every star in our night sky - the whole Milky Way - is there for you to explore how you choose."

David Braben, who is also the co-creator of "Elite: Dangerous," went on to drop the release date of the title's PS4 version: 2017. While Braben has said that the title will land on the said console by the second quarter of next year, new reports are pointing to a potential early 2017 release. Frontier has yet to confirm the news.

Over the past years, "Elite: Dangerous" players have been demanding for the game to be released on the PS4. Frontier has finally responded with good news but fans aren't so thrilled. The rumored VR feature has not been addressed yet.

Earlier reports suggested that the "Elite: Dangerous" PS4 version will come with full VR support. For many gamers, virtual reality is a ground-breaking feature that sees the future of the gaming universe. Should Frontier pull off a successful VR support introduction for the PS4 release of "Elite: Dangerous," fans can expect other developers to follow the same path.

However, some critics suggest that fans take any speculations with a grain of salt for now. Virtual reality is a system that requires not only knowledge but also time. Since Frontier has not officially confirmed VR support for the "Elite: Dangerous" PS4 version, it may be too early to predict anything yet.

The alleged VR support that will come with the "Elite: Dangerous" PS4 version's release may also debunk reports that Frontier is looking to launch the title sometime early 2017. As mentioned, virtual reality needs time. If the developer decides to integrate VR support for the game's PS4 version, the initially announced Q2 2017 release is more possible.

"Elite: Dangerous" is already playable on Xbox One and PC platforms. Stay tuned for more news and updates!
