Samsung Set To Release Last Software Update To Galaxy Note 7

Samsung Set To Release Last Software Update To Galaxy Note 7

After an epic failure and burning Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which resulted to massive recall, the tech giant has announced the device's final software update next week.

The update will be released on December 19 and will be the final update for the failed model, Samsung said in a statement.

It can be recalled that the South Korean tech giant had to initiate a massive recall after cases of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploding and catching fire have been reported worldwide.

In an expanded voluntary recall, Samsung has requested all U.S customers to voluntarily return or turn off their devices as it poses safety risks. The upcoming and absolutely last software update for the device will render all Galaxy Note & units inoperable.

"To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices. If you have not yet returned your device, you should immediately power it down and contact your carrier to obtain a refund or exchange," Samsung wrote in the statement.

According to the tech firm, around 93 percent of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in the U.S have been returned. But the remaining seven percent, which accounted to about 100,000 units, still pose safety threats to consumer, the company noted.

Will it be a smart move for Samsung to issue the software update? Tech analyst Jack Gold thinks so, as reported by the USA Today.

For Gold, putting its Galaxy Note 7 to an end is a sensible option for Samsung if it wants to regain its spot as one of the most preferred smartphone brand. Besides, it's a great way to put a closure to this marketing nightmare while the company prepares for its upcoming models, the S8 and the Note 8.
