‘Super Mario Run’ Update: Active Internet Connection Will Always Be Required; Releases On Dec. 15 & Everything We Know So Far

"Super Mario Run" will now require players to have an active internet connection. This was earlier announced by the mobile game creator Shigeru Miyamoto.

As explained by Miyamoto, an active internet connection is needed due to the fact that the World Tour single-player mode in "Super Mario Run" is too difficult to offer as an offline mode. This is also based on the fact that the game mode is also linked to the Mushroom Kingdom and Toad Rally modes. Based on reports, the Toad Rally needs to access the scores and play data of other players, which is information that can be acquired only from the server.

On the other hand, the Mushroom Kingdom needs purchase verification since players will buy items through coins collected in the game. But without an internet connection, the players could not possibly do this. Moreover, reports also claim that security is the other reason why the "Super Mario Run" requires an active internet connection. Based on this, privacy attempts will be prevented by checking the software's integrity.

However, the gamers are reported to be unhappy about the mobile game's internet connectivity requirement, given the fact that an internet connection will not be available for gamers who commute. The sentiment regarding the game was reportedly echoed in a Reddit thread discussing the issue, according to report.

Meanwhile, "Super Mario Run" is set to release on Dec. 15, and everyone seems to want to play the new game for free. That said, Apple offers a free demo version on the devices in the Apple Store. Given that the game will only be offered in iOS app store, the game demo version will not be accessible to the Android Market.

"Super Mario Run" reports, in the meantime, will have three different modes, however, only one would be available  in the free version. The game also provides a 20-second look of what the players can expect in the gameplay, VG247 reported. Watch 4 minutes of Super Mario Run Gameplay:
