Assassin’s Creed 5 could be set in ancient Egypt

An Assassin’s Creed set in Egypt? Well, there are chances

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is probably the next best thing after a history text book that your teacher recommended the other day. While nearly everything, ranging from the Third Crusade to late 15th Century Italy to the more recent eighteenth-century Caribbean setting, has been explored via the franchise, it seems like the developer is hoping to produce an Assassin’s Creed game that will be set in ancient Egypt. Sounds cool, right? We thought so.

Personally for me, although Assassin’s Creed is nowhere near to 2002’s classic RTS title Age of Mythology, as far as details on old world history is concerned (with its Gods and civilizations you end up reading about in college provided you choose Literature as a Major), it will still be a matter of great enthusiasm if Desmond Miles checks into that Animus next time and rewind himself back to the days of the pyramids with his great ancestor bashing up a corrupted Pharaoh or two.

Heading back to the topic in hand, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail was recently in an interview with The Examiner where he clearly mentioned that he would like to see a future game in the AC franchise that’s being set in ancient Egypt.

Ismail stated: “History is something that is rooted in all of us; we all have a deeper connection to it. So there's a lot of interesting periods and time places we haven't been to that I would to see.”

While Ismail didn’t comment anything specifically about the next setting for the future Assassin’s Creed game, he did reveal that “one day I would love to explore Egypt as a setting for this game. Ancient Egypt could be a really cool place. We have a really cool explanation for how we can do this, and it is with this Animus device that allows us to go to anytime in history.”

Contemplating the fact that the company was surprised by the crowd reaction when it decided to move back in time with the release of Black Flag, Ismail added: “People are really surprised with where we took Assassin's Creed 4 because it was back in time from Connor's time. But we've never outright said that we are always moving forward.”

“It just happened to be that way because we went from Altair to Ezio, then Ezio to Connor and there was a lot of hype about the American Revolution.”

"However, it was never a set rule that we always get closer to the present day. We were a bit surprised by people who saying, 'how do you go back in time, how's that possible?' It's that Animus device we have. But again, I'm not saying Egypt is where the next one is going, it's just where I would like it to go,” Ismail concluded.

While an Assassin’s Creed set in Egypt will be an interesting affair to say the least, it is to be noted that nothing has been finalized on that as of now. So what if it’s not Egypt? Where can the franchise head to from the golden age of piracy? While some reports claim that it could head over to the Wild West, others say that the new game will follow up on the forthcoming comic series related to the game that’s situated in the 18th Century British India.

However, only time will tell where Desmond’s memory will head off to the next time he checks into the Animus.
