HGTV Isn't Immune From The Reality TV Curse; 'Flip or Flop,' 'Fixer Upper' Court Controversy; Will The Shows Continue?

On a network like HGTV, where 100 percent of the programming is of the feel-good variety, the personalities are only human and they are real people who have real problems. It is only a matter of time that the stars get into trouble to end up courting controversy at some point.

HGTV "Flip Or Flop" Stars Now Separated?

The latest steam that blew in is the news that Tarek and Christina El Moussa, married stars of "Flip or Flop," have split. More than six months ago, Christina summoned the cops to their home in California after Tarek packed a gun in his knapsack and charged into the woods, according to Entertainment News.

The celebrity couple of "Flip or Flop" stood their ground and said that there was no violence and no charges were filed. "Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage," they said in a joint statement Monday. "We had an unfortunate disagreement about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution.

Although there's been trouble in their marriage for a few months now, the couple said that they chose to separate and get counselling while they reevaluate the future or their marriage, so they could get back together. This is specially so after they discovered just recently that Tarek has Thyroid cancer.

HGTV "Fixer Upper" Stars Also Courting Controversy?

The "Fixer Upper" hosts, Chip and Joanna Gaines, like the El Moussas, have also gotten a taste of the eventuality of becoming famous just for being their charming old self. Recently, the couple came under fire when Buzzfeed pointed out that they have linked with a church whose pastor preaches against same-sex marriage and is a proponent of conversion therapy.

The report didn't claim that the Gaineses, who are Christian, agreed or shared those discriminatory values with the pastor. However, onecan bet that plenty of people were stricken to find out that the shiplap-loving duo associated with such a person. Detractors wanted that the Gaineses speak out and explain their beliefs. "We don't discriminate against members of the LGBT community in any of our Fixer Upper shows," says the couple on Cosmopolitan.
