Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users will be surprised to know that their phones may receive an Android 7.1.1 Nougat update directly and skip Android 7.0 Nougat update. Even though Samsung hasn't yet divulged details or the final date when the Nougat update will roll out, it is expected real soon.
As per Indian Express, an XDA forum user posted a screenshot stating Samsung will support Android 7.1.1 from the official N OS release. Earlier, the South Korean tech giant had released the Galaxy Beta Program that allowed Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users test Android 7.1 Nougat on their devices. The validity of the screenshot could not be verified.
The 7.1.1 update has already been rolled out to Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, Pixel tablet, Nexus player and General Mobile 4G (Android One) devices, reports The Indian Express. The update brings various features including reset button, app shortcuts, new camera app, smart storage, moves menu, support tab and new emojis in both genders to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets.
The image keyboard allows users choose and send images from preferred messaging app, GIFs, emojis and stickers. The new camera app brings in features such as AE/FE locking, Smart Burst, Viewfinder grid modes and automatic Exposure. The Smart Storage feature clears up space by removing old backed-up photos and videos in smartphones including Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
It will be interesting to see how directly jumping to Android 7.1.1 on Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge impacts the adoption rate. According to Gadgets 360, the Google Play distribution data for a seven-day period ending Dec. 5 revealed Android 7.0 Nougat is running on only 0.4 percent of active Android devices. It's definitely not a very promising number.
