Alien: Isolation Gets an Official Overview, New Screens, and First Trailer (VIDEO)

Overview Pops Up For Alien: Isolation Over at Xbox.com, and Announcement Trailer is a Go

Slowly but surely, more information is trickling out from the game that's looking to inject horror back into the Aliens brand. Alien: Isolation now has a product page over at Xbox.com, complete with pictures and an overview, letting gamers in on what they can expect from the game. There's also new pictures at the product page. You'll recognize most of them from the pictures that leaked in mid-December, but there's at least one new picture, seen above, of a truly stunning xenomorph.

"Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger," reads the description. "Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother's disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive."

Now, pictures and descriptions are one thing, but finally we have some official video. They certainly look promising, but after doing my part in overhyping Colonial Marines, I'll hold my tongue until I can actually try the game. Check 'em out below.

"Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive." Funny, sounds kind of like what Ripley's surrogate daughter Rebecca "Newt" Jorden was up to before Ripley and the Colonial Marines landed on LV-426 in the "Aliens" movie, and the lone xenomorph echoes "Alien" and "Alien 3."

Amanda was very briefly mentioned in the film series, but never made an actual appearance. It will be interesting to see if Sega and Creative Assembly stick with the franchise's official storyline, but that would be doubtful as it would mean that Amanda never manages to find her mother.
After the events of the first "Alien" movie, Ripley was adrift in space for close to 60 years. It was during that time that Amanda passed away.

Exploring such an obscure character is certainly an odd move, but it can be attributed to the catastrophe that befell Sega with its last foray into the xenomorph universe with a more familiar setting and characters, the abomination that was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Notice how today's Isolation trailers open with the message, "The trailer footage shown uses the in-game engine, and represents a work in progress." Not saying as much (as well as a few other things) landed Sega and Gearbox in hot water with Colonial Marines.

Personally, I think the brand would be better off as a whole if Capcom put out a HD version of its arcade beat 'em up Aliens vs. Predator, but that's just me. We'll keep you posted as more information on this game comes to light.
