Note that while "HIMYM" aired in CBS, the same is not necessarily the case for the spin-off, Screen Rant reported. The script is underway and will reportedly be shipped to different networks for 2017-2018 tv season. Therefore, there is a chance that it could fall on another network.

Since it is still in a very early stage of development, there is no assurance yet that it will be picked up for a full series. However, considering the warm reception to "This Is Us" that has earned a few Golden Globe nominations on its maiden season, things are looking up for the project.

"HIMYM" flew largely underrated on its first few seasons until it earned some ground and subsequently won accolades. Its final episode was the most watched in the series' history with 12.9 million viewers with an impressive 5.3 rating in 18-49 demographic. In 2014, another spin-off has been ordered by CBS titled, "How I Met Your Dad." However, the project did not pan out because several elements of the pilot reportedly did not workout.
