'Despicable Me 3' Release Date, Latest News & Updates: New Villain Announced, Important Person From Gru's Past Will Also Appear, Details Here!

"The Despicable Me" film series just released its official trailer. We'd be seeing again Gru, Lucy and, of course, those cute banana-looking minions. Everyone is back: Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and (til official confirmation happens) co-director Pierre Coffin as one of the voices of one of those yellow henchmen.

New in Despicable Me 3

There's a new story of course, new villain... but that's it. The rest would scream '80s. Trey Parker was announced as the new villain aptly named Balthazar Bratt. He is a resentful former child star who is stuck on that era. From his favorite music, favorite fashion, favorite color and favorite shoulder pads he'll take us back to memory lane.

Still continuing with their adventure Dru and Lucy with their daughters: Margo, Edith and Agnes will try to win the day by outsmarting the nemesis who "is not a monster. (But that's) a man wearing shoulder pads!" This villain isn't the only thing in store. Another long-lost person in Dru's life is going to show up. It's definitely worth looking forward to this.

Secrets of Success

"Despicable Me" originally based its appeal on the minions. Since rarely do we fall for anyone in a frown NBC Universal thought of capitalizing on the gibberish-talking-naughty creatures. Since then, "Minion Madness" was born and the world caught on.

Coming from a kiddie 3D cartoon might be a ticket to success but who can ignore their happy color, familiar looking shape and that gibberish that would appeal even to tots just learning to speak? Certainly a powerhouse of cast also contributed, no doubt about that. Honestly, is there any other voice you can think of for Gru other than Carell's? "Despicable Me 3" will be showing June 30, 2017.
