Google Pixel Release Date, News & Update: Compatible With All US Major Carriers, BUT T-Mobile Not Selling?

Google Pixel smartphones that are sold in the United States is SIM unlocked. In fact, every version of the said phone can work with all major carriers such as Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.

For those who were able to purchase a Google Pixel phone via the internet or other source, the model number on the back should either indicate "G-2PW2100" or "G-2PW4100", which means that the handset is unlocked and works on all the four major US carriers. Otherwise, the Google Pixel handset will unlikely work on Sprint or Verizon, and it is likely a global model, according to reports.

This happens because Verizon has reportedly made sure that the customers will feel the need to use their Google Pixel on Verizon with its "only on Verizon" commercial ads in the US at that time. The ads, however, do not imply any type of SIM lock policy or network restrictions. Incidentally, reports suggest that the only difference between the Google Pixel bought in the Google Store and the Verizon Pixel is that the handsets from Verizon has a locked bootloader.

It should be noted, though, that the locked bootloader does not affect any type of carrier used on the phone. In fact, reports indicate that a customer can purchase a Google Pixel from Verizon, and then cancel the Verizon service later, taking the Google Pixel smartphone to T-Mobile without losing their OTA updates, including the advanced network features like Wi-Fi and VoLTE calling.  Although both features are supported by all major carriers with the Google Pixel, support does not differ according to where the handset was bought, Android Police reported.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile is confirmed to display the Google Pixel in stores, but the carrier will reportedly not sell one. The carrier will reportedly begin showing off the Google Pixel in stores, but it won't actually sell you one. This is due to the fact the Google Pixel smartphones are  Verizon-exclusive at the carrier level, though Google sells the handset through its online storefront.

T-Mobile reports mean that instead of selling Google Pixel phones, T-Mobile will direct its customers to Google Store. The carrier offers a deal by giving away a $350 bill credit for the next two years to those who buy a Google Pixel and sign up for T-Mobile, according to report.
