Last Wednesday, "NBA 2K17" announced its newest eSports event for NBA 2K17. The NBA 2K17 All-Star Tournament will begin on December 31 and end at the "NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans" in February. The grand prize package is $250,000 and tickets to the NBA All-Star Game at the Smoothie King Center.
"NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals proved that our fans have an appetite for competitive gaming, and we are excited to deliver another opportunity for Pro-Am teams to go head-to-head during the new All-Star Tournament. Thousands of teams participated in our NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals competition, and we expect this tournament to attract great talent and inspire more of the intense action we witnessed in the first," as stated by Alfie Brody, the Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K.
Qualifying for the tournament begins on New Year's Eve in the United States and Canada and that will be followed by in-game rounds scheduled in a five-day series beginning on January 28, 2017. All teams must have "Elite Status" or better playing skills and they can compete on any of the five days. Every qualifying win adds to the team's total score on the leaderboard for the day it's played.
The three teams with the highest score on each console on each of the five qualifying days will advance to the tournament. The team on each console that has the highest single-day score that did not finish in the top-three on their selected day will get the 16th and final seed in their platform's bracket in "NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals competition."
The "NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals" tournament is portion of the event which will begin this February 4 (Rounds 1 and 2). This coming February 11, the console semifinals and finals will take place. Each round will be single-elimination and the teams that emerge from each console bracket will meet in the finals for the grand prize package.
