Blackberry News & Updates: TCL Buys Blackberry; Alcatel Name Allegedly On It?

The Chinese company TCL bought BlackBerry’s global rights. TCL already made BlackBerry’s last two phones DTEK50 and DTEK60. In September BlackBerry announced they sold their global rights to TCL and now they will focus on better service and software.

However, BlackBerry still is not fully cut off. TCL will design, manufacture, sell and provide customer support while BlackBerry will work on software and services. The companies are working on a new deal with an Indian company, however, these global rights don’t apply in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Indonesia, The Verge reported. The last models as well as the upcoming won’t be made by BlackBerry, which was expected since the company is holding to 0.1 % on the global market, where in 2009 they held 20%.

Things took a bad turn when Apple and Android phones appeared on the market which were a total success, but this meant death for BlackBerry. For six years they struggled on the market but couldn’t surface among these phone giants when they finally sold the global rights to a Chinese company TCL as The Next Web reported. Now, TCL will sell their products under the Alcatel marquee. But this means nothing since TCL bought Palm in January and still haven’t done anything with it.

According to PC World, BlackBerry is dead. Yes, they sold their global rights to TCL and yes they are dead. The Chinese company will do everything for their phones while BlackBerry can work on software and service. Among smartphone giants like Apple and Samsung who are currently making the rules for the market, but Nokia and BlackBerry went with the option to sell their global rights. TCL bought Alcatel and they are planning to sell BlackBerry’s phones with Alcatel name on it, but nothing is for sure yet since they bought Palm in January and did nothing with it, this could easily be the case with BlackBerry too, however, they will announce their plans in the next few months.
