Titanfall Season Pass Not Present at Launch, Appears to be Planned for the Future

Respawn Unclear on Titanfall Season Pass: Not Now, Probably Later

Titanfall is finally just 11 days away from releasing on Xbox One and PC, with the console owners in particular excited to get their hands on the biggest software for the system so far. The game has generally been praised for being very fun, and its release is highly anticipated: these are known quantities in regards to the mech-based shooter.

What is unclear are plans going forward for Titanfall in regards to downloadable content and how gamers will get it. Confusion (not for the first time about the game) regarding the existence of a Season Pass, which for other titles gives you access to all future content if you buy the pass, has clouded the situation.

The official Titanfall Twitter account helped clear things up today, though it still left us without an absolute answer. Respawn Entertainment responded to a fan, who asked about an online content pass, by very directly stating, "Titanfall will not have a season pass."

Now, that seems pretty definitive and clear: according to that statement, the game doesn't currently have, and won't be getting, a season pass. However, Titanfall Blog reports that developer Respawn since backtracked on the wording of that statement and sent a new tweet saying, "Sorry for any confusion. There is no ONLINE pass for Titanfall. We have no details to announce around a Season Pass at this time."

Since they went through the effort of sending out a new tweet to reword the statement and adding "at this time", it actually seems like the opposite of what they originally said: there isn't currently a pass, but it sounds like one is coming in the future. It's not definitive confirmation, but it is pretty sound reasoning.

Respawn has said there will be no microtransactions, which are generally disliked, but that's one of the only details we know. I imagine it means that bigger downloadable content packs like maps, weapons and maybe even new titans would be more like what we see from Respawn if there won't be small, bite-sized conent.

Titanfall will be available on March 11 for PC and Xbox One and March 25 on Xbox 360. There is a bundle for Xbox One that includes the game with the console, and the PC version will require quite a bit of hard drive space, so plan accordingly.
