Fez on PlayStation: Comes to PS3, PS4 and Vita March 25, Triple Cross-Buy

Fez Comes to PlayStation March 25, Triple Cross-Buy

Polytron Corporation’s Fez is finally coming to PlayStation consoles. Announced as part of the Spring Fever 2014 PlayStation Store sale, it has been revealed that Phil Fish's colorful and charming platformer will be releasing on March 25.

Fez will be available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita for $12.99 (or $9.99 with PlayStation Plus). A triple Cross-Buy will unlock access to the game on all three PlayStation consoles.

Ported by BlitWorks, Fez on PlayStation consoles is a C++ port that is said to run at 60FPS on both home consoles and “smoothly” on the Vita. The PlayStation 4 version will also be 1080p native, with the PS3 version at 720p.

Polyton has also revealed a small exclusive feature in the PlayStation 4 version that uses the DualShock 4 lightbar. The studio didn't say what exactly can be expected, but I'd imagine the lightbar will simply match the dominant color on screen. 3DTV support is also said to be included as an easter egg found later in the game.

Perhaps with the reception and sales success of Fez on PlayStation, Phil Fish, founder of Polytron, will reconsider the cancellation of Fez 2. If you missed the drama from last year, Fish had suddenly canceled production of Fez 2 after he had a Twitter dispute with online writer Marcus Beer over Beer's comments toward him on the GameTrailer's show Invisible Walls. Fish's controversial comments often led him to be a target online; his altercation with Beer was seemingly the last straw.

He posted the following statement on Polyton's website shortly after the dispute, “"Fez 2 is cancelled [sic]. I am done. I take the money and I run. This is as much as I can stomach. This isn't the result of any one thing, but the end of a long, bloody campaign. You win."

Polytron has yet to comment on Fez 2's status now that the original Fez is having a new release. I'm sure that this question has and will continue to come up, because Fez was a widely positively reviewed game when it released. I've seen many fans request that Fish “ignore the haters” and revisit the world of Fez. Who knows what will happen?
