Twitch Signs with ESA to Become the Official Streaming Partner of E3

Video game streaming site Twitch has been busy these days. I've reported on the site a few times and the news regarding the company doesn't seem to be stopping. Today, Twitch has announced that they have been named the official streaming partner for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). In its pursuit to dominate the internet (or just be the go-to gaming streaming site) Twitch has signed a three year agreement with the Entertainment Software Association, the company behind the E3, starting this year.

“Live video has changed the video game industry in a fundamental way and transformed how gamers learn, communicate and share their passion for games,” said Jonathan Simpson-Bint, chief revenue officer of Twitch. “Twitch looks forward to deepening consumers’ E3 online experience with top E3 news, original interviews, and behind-the-scenes E3 footage.”

Twitch on Mobile: Twitch Brings Broadcasting to iOS and Android Devices

E3 2014 begins on June 10 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Since I was a kid, it's been one of the coolest events in the industry, where big announcements are made and companies battle it out for the consumer's favor. Twitch's presence at the show will include an E3 Twitch channel where developments will be broadcast, and video monitors spread across the convention center walls.

"E3 is the leading computer and video game event in the world. It is known and respected as the launch pad for the latest in video game news," said Rich Taylor, senior vice president of communications and industry affairs at ESA. "We look forward to partnering with Twitch and extending E3's worldwide reach to billions of consumers."

Twitch has become quite popular these days. Launched in 2011 with a pure gaming and e-sports focus, Twitch.tv became a prime destination for gamers to stream and watch others play video games. With the start of this console generation, Twitch has quickly expanded to naively support console streamers without the use of third party hardware.

This week, the service also announced that they will be pursing mobile device streaming by releasing development software to add native Twitch functions into mobile games.
