Titanfall News: Atari Arcade Classics Asteroids, Missile Command, and Centipede Get a Titanfall Twist

Titanfall Arcade Brings Smash Atari Hits Back from the Dead

It's always nice when new game developers can remember not just their own roots, but the roots of the industry as a whole. A few decades ago, the hottest game wasn't the one you could pop into your home console, it was found at your local arcade, and back then, gamers wasted way more than $60 trying to get their names to the top of old-school equivalant of today's leadboard, the hi-score list. After enough quarters and skill, you'd be the one to live on through history. Though, no one would ever know it, because you thought leaving your initials as "ASS" was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

Anywho, Titanfall developer Respawn knows how far games have come, and they want everyone else to know it too. The company has put out a website that places the game's monolithic mechs in a number of classic arcade games in the place of the ships and whatnot responsible for "pew-pew" ing left and right.

The new vehicle is more than just a cosmetic change, as the mech in each game throws in one a signature piece of ordinance:

- the mechs in both Missile Command and Centipede send out a cluster of rockets to intercept the incoming missiles and long legged beasties.
- the mech in Asteroids is armed with the Arc Cannon, shooting out a continuous stream of lightning. At about 2-3 seconds, it's brief, but its effects are truly devastating.

The weaponry provides enough to change the game enough to keep it interesting for new gamers, but familiar enough that old-school buffs will enjoy it as well. The only downfall is that the designers clearly wanted to show just how powerful the titans are, because there's not a damn thing any of these games can throw at the mechs to even cause a dent, leaving challenge something to be desired.

Still, it's a fun way to kill some time. Hit up Titanfall Arcade to check 'em all out.
