Warner Bros Sold 1.6 Million LEGO Games In a Year- Movie Game Helped Make It Second Biggest Franchise in 2014

Warner Bros Sold 1.6 Million LEGO Games In a Year

An interview with Spencer Crossley, sales and Marketing director at Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, has revealed some pretty startling figures. According to him the LEGO series has sold 1.6 million games since the beginning of 2013. This year so far the franchise has moved 420,200 units, most of them undeniably coming from the LEGO Movie Videogame tie-in, which has helped make it the second-biggest selling franchise of the year.

It could eventually become the best-selling franchise of the year, period. Despite the fact that the LEGO series is over a decade old at this point and that they've been cranking out at least two games a year gamers can't seem to get enough of them. It could be due to the fact that they keep nabbing high-quality franchises to play off of- "Star Wars", "Lord of the Rings", DC, Marvel, and that they keep improving the quality of the series, however incrementally. The next big release will be LEGO: The Hobbit in April, and will certainly help along sales of the franchise.

Crossley promises many more titles on the way, including the continuation of their roll-out onto iOS titles, which saw great successs with LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga last year.

While the LEGO franchise has made Warner Bros a major player in the industry alone, they also have another series that's huge right now- Batman. They're really going to push Batman: Arkham Knight, especially seeing as how it's going to be the last title in the Arkham series. "We have a huge campaign planned for this huge title and our expectations are understandably high," says Crossley.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is another title they're going to marketing heavily, seeing as how it's the first "Lord of the Rings" game for the PS4 and Xbox One

If Warner Bros keeps releasing great games and earning gamers' trust they could become a Top Five publisher, alongside the likes of EA, Activision, and Ubisoft. It's remarkable to see, since as the article points out, so many film companies have failed in their quests to do the same. Warner Bros could be the one that finally makes it, and its success will be built on top of tiny plastic blocks.
