The 2014 World Cup kicks off this summer, and EA Sports continues teasing their FIFA tie-in game, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. We recently got the first details of the game, including screenshots, and now EA has released a trailer showing the gameplay in motion for the first time.
It's a very celebratory trailer, reveling in the international spirit and competetive nature that World Cups bring out--similar to what we see at any winter or summer Olympics. There are shots of the unique Brazilian stadiums that will host the tournament, as well as a variety of national teams and players, and a lot of footage of the simulated fan passion elicited by international football.
The trailer plays an upbeat, inspirational song with a South American style that's trying very hard to pull you into the fun and spirit of the tournament. I recently ranked FIFA 14's national teams (which also serves as my predictions for this World Cup) to get in the mood myself. As a huge football fan, I'm pretty excited for this summer's competition.
It will be a bit of an odd release as it's only available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to take advantage of their large user bases, so it might not look as good as the next-gen console versions of FIFA 14 that people have been playing. They did say they're improving the graphics over the last-gen FIFA 14 iteration (though I wouldn't expect anything major, it still looks largely the same), so it's certainly not going to look bad.
They're also releasing it as a full-priced standalone game--it's not DLC. After the rough patch in the franchise that was the Euros 2012 tie-in, EA Sports is promising they want to make this a good product with plenty of content they can add to. In addition to that, they explained that not everyone buys FIFA 14, but they get in the mood to play a game when the tournament comes around and shouldn't have to buy FIFA 14 and the World Cup content just to play tournament-themed games and modes.
Those are the reasons for the platform and pricing choices, but enough about that. The trailer is below, and it's inviting you to get in the mood as it flashes its array of international superstars pulling off shots, dribbles, and fancy flicks. The game releases April 15 in North America and April 17 in Europe.
