"The Witcher's" next release has been officially announced recently by CD Projekt Red. Aside from the official announcement, fans of the video game series were given a teaser image.

Ever since the release of the said teaser, fans have been speculating that the medallion seen in it resembles a cat. However, a Eurogamer report has revealed that the medallion is not shaped after a cat.

Instead, it is shaped after a lynx.

This was confirmed to the publication by none other than CD Projekt Red's Robert Malinowski, who is the company's global communication director.

"I can confirm that the medallion is, in fact, shaped after a lynx," Malinowski told Eurogamer.

What Could a Lynx Medallion Mean?

Eurogamer's report notes that a School of the Lynx does not exist in "The Witcher" canon. This includes both the books as well as the video games.

The report, however, points out that the only mention of a School of the Lynx can be seen in a fan fiction piece that has been uploaded on The Witcher Fandom Wiki.

As previously mentioned, fans previously speculated that the medallion in the teaser image resembles a cat. This speculation has led to some theorizing that the upcoming "The Witcher" game may involve Ciri, Geralt of Rivia's adopted daughter, according to a report by GameSpot.

The report points out that Ciri is from the School of the Cat in "The Witcher" canon.

 'The Witcher' Schools

Not counting the new School of the Lynx, there are a total of seven schools in "The Witcher," per an article by Game Rant. The article explains that Witcher schools are "groups which teach the meticulous training needed to become an efficient Witcher."

The seven current Witcher schools are as follows:

  • School of the Bear - It is the first Witcher school
  • School of the Cat - This school is best known for betraying the School of the Wolf in the series' story
  • School of the Crane - It is one of the most recent Witcher schools formed
  • School of the Griffin - It is also known as School of the Eagle and considered a very traditional school
  • School of the Manticore - It is described as a reclusive and mysterious school
  • School of the Viper - It is considered as one of the most brutal schools in the series
  • School of the Wolf - This is the school Geralt of Rivia came from
