The next iteration of PSVR was originally announced back during Sony's CES 2022 presentation. Now, TechRadar reports that the new VR headset could have its first preorder date revealed in its "own" State of Play event, according to information from prominent leaker Tom Henderson on Twitter:

As you can see in the tweet, Henderson alleges that Sony recently sent an email with the heading "Introducing PlayStation VR 2." He says that ahead of the PS5's launch, a similar email was sent "a couple of weeks prior." But aside from mentioning that game journalist Jeff Grubb (who recently leaked info about the upcoming Dragon Age 4) and Greg Miller also received the same email, Henderson elaborated no further.

Nevertheless, the original TechRadar report says that PSVR2 getting its own State of Play-style event makes sense. That's because specific developers have already tried the new VR gaming system early during the 2022 Game Developers' Conference (GDC).

PushSquare reported that an early, non-market prototype of the next-gen PSVR headset was playable and "already blowing minds." The playable demo was showcased behind closed doors, with some developers, including Valve veteran Chet Faliszek already excited for the future of the device.

Faliszek shared his thoughts about the playable PSVR2 prototype on Twitter, and it's safe to say that he was enamored by it:

For now, a potential State of Play presentation for Sony's new VR gaming system would have them showing off more official information about it. There could be talks of specs and the upcoming exclusive games.

What Is Known So Far About PSVR2?

There's not a lot of information immediately available for PSVR2 as of the moment. But Eurogamer managed to compile what is known about the headset and its controllers in one article, and they sound pretty good.

First up, it has been confirmed that the next-gen PSVR will be exclusive to the new PlayStation 5 console (sorry, PS4 users). But this makes sense if Sony does want to make the VR experience on the new headset truly next-gen, as the last-gen PS4 console's hardware is showing its age more and more during this gaming generation.

Second, the device's specs are quite impressive on paper. It will feature a 110-degree field of view, 90-120Hz refresh rates, and a sky-high resolution of 2000x2040 for each eye. Furthermore, the PS5's use of advanced haptics and 3D audio will also be complimented by the visuals, which Sony promises will "a heightened range of sensations unlike any other."

Third and last rumored preorder dates, price, and final release date. As previously mentioned, there are no hints of when preorders will begin, but a report by Bloomberg says that Sony is targeting a Holiday 2022 release. For the price, one can likely expect to pay $399 in the US and £399 in the UK, which is the same price that the first-gen PSVR headset released back in the day.
