PS5 Gets VRR Support for Some Games

PS5 is finally receiving VRR support this week as announced by PlayStation on its blog site.

If you are wondering what Variable Refresh Rate or VRR means, GameSpot defines it as "a new standard that was introduced with HDMI 2.1 and allows the PS5 to match the refresh rate of supported displays to provide a smooth experience with a fluctuating frame rate."

According to PlayStation's announcement, VRR support is set to roll out globally.

Can You Turn It Off to Apply It to Other Games?

It should be noted that a PS5 console must be connected to the internet to receive the update containing the VRR support.

"Once you've received the update, VRR will automatically be enabled for supported games if your PS5 console is connected to an HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TV or PC monitor," PlayStation says in its announcement.

You have the option of turning VRR support off if you do not want it. All you have to do is look for system settings and find Screen and Video.

You also have the option of applying VRR to games that do not support it for now as it may improve the video quality of the game. PlayStation notes in its announcement that results may vary depending on the TV being used and the game you are playing.

If it does not work on a game that currently does not support VRR, you can simply just turn it off.
