World Of Warcraft On A Controller? This Player Posts A Helpful Tutorial On How To Do Just That

The massively popular MMORPG World Of Warcraft is a unique, particular type of game. With that, it means the game requires a particular set of controls to play. But one WoW player managed to take the game, which is usually played on mouse and keyboard, and play it using a controller.

Yes, you read that right: playing World Of Warcraft on a controller. That is what Reddit user Kenna2 managed to do by making use of addons, writes GameRant. By addons, we mean the practice of binding specific controller inputs to equally specific things like abilities and item slots.

Kenna2 posted a video detailing how to play the MMORPG using a controller on the WoW subreddit. So far, the five-minute tutorial has earned over 1,100 upvotes and more than 200 comments at the time of this writing:

The addon that Kenna2 used to achieve the technical feat is called consoleport. According to him, it allows for almost full compatibility with both PlayStation and Xbox controllers. But aside from that, the addon also allows players to customize the controls like sensitivity, and even how the overall visuals will look.

In the video, he showcased how consoleport adds support for both the PS4's DualShock 4 and the PS5's DualSense controllers, as well as the modern Xbox controller (360/One/Series).

As you can see there, even the default bindings already seem good with the left and right mouse buttons mapped to L3 and R3, respectively (aka clicking the thumbsticks. The Shift and Ctrl buttons are mapped to LT and RT by default as well. But perhaps the best thing about the consoleport addon here is the Roleplay option, which basically changes the UI's looks based on your character's class.

In the video, he picked the Roleplay option to transform his Shaman character's UI into something that looks more fitting. He says that by triggering the option (which can be set by going to the Action Bar tab on the consoleport addon), you will get a different artwork for each in-game class. This is presumably to further add to the game's overall immersion.

With a controller, you get immense levels of comfort you'll never get from keyboard and mouse controls. You might be losing precision and speed by going for a controller, but the comfort you get from being able to just sit back and relax can be a great tradeoff, according to ESportsTalk.

At the end of the day, however, it comes down to what you want to use. So many players swear by mouse and keyboard, and the same is true for controllers. But the truth is, neither side is right. Pick what fits you. That's it.
