The rumor mill has been frantic in the months leading up to the iPhone 6 reveal – now officially set for September 9 – wondering whether or not the iPhone 6 screen will utilize the impressively scratch-resistant sapphire crystal over the current iPhones' Gorilla Glass. Now, an investor analysis published by Investor's Business Daily says that, no, Apple fans will not get a sapphire glass screen on their new iPhone 6.

According to the report, sapphire glass will only be used for the iPhone 6's home button, much like it's currently used on the iPhone 5S. The report also states that the iWatch will be utilizing sapphire glass as well, but that's another story for another rumor mill.

Leaked Diagrams Could Show iPhone 6 Specs

The report goes on to say that Apple might end up using sapphire glass for the screens of the next generation of iPhone, like on an iPhone 6S, which actually agrees with the results of another investor report published over on CNET. According to this other report, Apple could be testing sapphire screens on the 64GB version of the iPhone 6 to see if their markets react favorably. With a successful test run, Apple could make a move to make sapphire screens standard on the iPhone 7 a couple of years down the road.

So the future looks like a promising place for sapphire screens. But for folks looking to pick up a launch day iPhone 6, it looks like you'll be sticking with Gorilla Glass.
