NYCC News: $3.2 Million Superman Action Comics #1 Available For Viewing On Show Floor

Grab Ten Of Your Friends And Check Out Action #1, The $3.2 Million Superman Comic At NYCC This Thursday

One of the last remaining Action Comics #1, the very first appearance of the last son of Krypton himself, Superman, has just been sold for $3.2 million to a pair of collectors in an eBay auction.

This is good news for Stephen Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo, co-owners of www.ComicConnect.com, the industry's leading online auction house and Metropolis, the world's largest vintage comic book dealer.

"Action #1 is the Holy Grail of comic books," says Stephen Fishler, co-owner of ComicConnect and its sister dealership, Metropolis Collectibles in New York. Fishler created the 10-point grading scale that has become the industry standard. "It not only introduced Superman, but pioneered the superhero genre. There would be no Batman, no Spider-Man, no blockbuster movies, without it. Owning one is every collector's dream." The two previously bought an Action #1 from Nicolas Cage in 2011 for a cool $2.2 million, which is proof positive that you can turn to your parents and say 'look! I can make money from my comics!'

NYCC To Debut Wax Hawkeye Figure

Now, how does any of this apply to you? Well, it's simple. Zurolo and Fishler will be showing off their White Whale (only about 100 are known to be in existence) this Thursday before they lock it away in a vault, as is the proper place for all great, valuable works of art.

I know what you're thinking. You and between ten and twelve of your buddies can get together and pull off some overly elaborate heist whilst looking good and mouthing off pithy one-liners.

But, in all seriousness, this is one of those rare opportunities where you can witness a piece of art and comic history, like going to the Louvre and finally seeing the Mona Lisa in person. Yes, you've seen it reproduced hundreds of times before, but nothing can quite prepare you for the experience of seeing the honest to god real thing. You can view the comic Thursday, October 9 at Booth 2630.
