Driveclub Servers Update: PlayStation France President Says Coding Issue, Not Servers The Cause Of Connectivity Problems

PlayStation France President Says Driveclub Coding Issue, Not Servers The Cause Of Connectivity Problems

Online racing title Driveclub has been experiencing connectivity issues since launch, and it was thought the servers were to blame. PlayStation has helped clear up the matter, explaining that an issue in the game's code is actually at fault.

Many players were having trouble getting online or staying connected immediately, and the problems have been slowly addressed by a series of patches and tweaks deployed since the October 7 release. Given the online nature of the game, it was widely assumed that the servers were unprepared for the number of players coming online, but PlayStation France President Philippe Cardon got to the heart of the issue.

"I really apologize to all the players who have difficulty connecting. In the programming of the game, there was an error that prevents us from welcoming enough players at the same time," he told French outlet Gameblog. "All this is being reprogrammed, but it takes much longer than simply adding 1000, 2000, or 3000 servers."

What's interesting is that developers Evolution Studios recently posted that they have in fact been bringing more servers online, so that must have some effect on the connection problems. Likely, the real source of the problem is in the code as Cardon says, but adding more servers can alleviate the issue--it wasn't simply a problem of too little support. Cardon does not know exactly when the problems will be solved, and the free PS Plus version of Driveclub is still delayed while the developers improve the full game.
