Possible Avengers Xbox and PS3 Game, Dark Knight Rises will Follow?

The highly anticipated superhero film "The Avengers" will be hitting theatres in the coming weeks.  As with most blockbuster movie releases, a video game adaptation isn't far behind.

Fans may already be expecting Marvel's announcement that The Avengers will be releasing multiple games alongside its theatrical debut.  Could this mean fans will be playing their favorite Avengers heroes on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Nintendo Wii?

"We launched Marvel: Avengers Alliance on Facebook; which is just the tip of the iceberg," said Marvel's VP of Games Production, TQ Jefferson in an interview with Forbes.

"This is the first in a much larger effort to support the Avengers franchise across not just one but multiple video game touch points. The Avengers are bigger than just one game, and we're planning to allow consumers to enjoy The Avengers regardless of their preference in gameplay style or platform. Look for more announcements in the weeks to come."

Batman's upcoming movie, The Dark Knight Rises, also captured the attention of fans as Warner Bros. announced that its third and newest trailer will be previewed before The Avenger's film.  Up until this point neither The Avengers or The Dark Knight Rises have reported a console video game.

"Isn't there one?  I would assume there are many Avenger's videogames," said The Avengers director Joss Whedon.

Game Development company "Playdom" has been given the greenlight to create a quality product for possibly an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4 Avengers console game.

In the past, most game adaptations were rushed to meet deadlines connected to the film debut.  As a result, games-based on movies are notoriously known to be terrible products.  Disney and Marvel plans to take a different approach this time to avoid delivering a poor game.

Marvel's Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor fell victims to this tragic cycle.  An earlier scheduled Avengers game was already in production by game company THQ, but due to financial instability, production was stopped and the game cancelled.

Even the Caped Crusader saw its video game adaptation of "Batman Begins" fall in expectation with mediocre gameplay and poor artificial intelligence. The Batman franchise continued on a downward spiral with its film "The Dark Knight" cancelling production for its video game adaptation.  The Dark Knight Rises has not officially reported any plans for a video game, perhaps due to those reasons.

Though there is hope as recent Batman game titles developed by game company "Rocksteady" has become a favorite among gamers and critics.  The success of console and PC versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and the iPhone version Batman Arkham City Lockdown may have TDKR reconsidering their plans for game releases.

The Avengers have launched its own Faceboook game "Marvel: Avengers Alliance" and plans to spread across other platforms.  Here's hoping The Avengers can break the trend of failed video game from movie adaptations.
