Apple on Wednesday announced that it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC, from June 11 to June 15 at San Francisco's Moscone West. However, it did not reveal the release date for its iPhone 5.
During the conference, Apple's engineers will give out over 100 technical sessions to developers on Apple's technology with specific topics for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS and OS X technologies.
"We have a great WWDC planned this year and can't wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
"The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world," Schiller further added.
Developers will get opportunities to explore Apple's latest technologies and connect with developers from across the world.
According to the press release, "Developers will be able to explore the latest innovations, features and capabilities of iOS and OS X Mountain Lion and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance, quality and design of their apps. Developers can even bring their code to the labs and work with Apple engineers, applying development techniques and best-practices to enhance their apps."
In the past, Apple used to launch its latest technologies and new products during the summer's WWDC, but, last year, the company delayed it until October to bring out its iPhone 4S. Going by the speculations and with no mention of a launching date of its much-speculated iPhone 5 in the press statement, Apple might follow suit this year too.
Apple also had historically presented its iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 at WWDC in 2008-2010. But a summer release would place a very short period of time between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S debut. Most speculations are that an October date is more realistic.
"Based on tempered expectations for the current quarter with earnings of $8.68 a share and revenue of $34 billion, it's unlikely the company would plan for an iPhone release this summer and it will almost certainly shoot for a fall release. Instead, we expect WWDC to be a lot like last year, where software is in the spotlight. Specifically, we expect Apple to announce iOS 6.0 and launch Mountain Lion OS for Mac," writes VentureBeat.
To find out what Apple has in store, we will have to wait and see what unfolds at the conference which is scheduled for June 11 in San Francisco.
