Fans will be treated with a major change in the upcoming "Overwatch" Season 2 and it will be the skill rating scale. The game's Competitive Play will be launched on Sept. 6 and Blizzard Entertainment has revealed some crucial information regarding the upcoming season.
James Kaplan, "Overwatch" Season 2 director, also confirmed major changes though prior to the changes, a public test realm (PTR) would be held, reports The Bitbag. Kaplan said in an interview that Blizzard will be shifting its focus a bit from the game's skill rating. He said he does not want competitive players to be recognized based on that number anymore.
It was also revealed that "Overwatch" Season 2 would not implement the Sudden Death feature. Kaplan said "ties should be very, very rare on the hybrid maps and the payloads." Only when no one pushes the cart at all will a tie happen on the payloads. He also explained that ties will happen in Hybrids only if nobody initially captures the payload.
The "Overwatch" Season 2 will also do away with draws. In case a draw happens, players will be rewarded all the points. The Competitive Play ranking system will look like 1-1,499 for Bronze, 1,500-1,999 for Silver, 2,000-2,499 for Gold, 2,500-2,999 for Platinum, 3,000-3,499 for Diamond, 3,500-3,999 for Master and 4,000-5,000 for Grandmaster.
Kaplan also spoke about possible retirement of heroes if the roster increases and the game requires a balance. However, he did add that none of the fan-favorites will be removed. If players fail to play "Overwatch 2" Season 2 for a week, then rankings may after all be affected. Thus, they should at least make it a point to log-in once a week.
This ensures a spot in the Top 500 rankings. A recent update on "Overwatch" Season 2's matchmaking system revealed that it makes the Competitive Play tougher. Only skilled player will be chosen.
