New Assassin's Creed Announcement Coming February 27th

Ubisoft may be revealing their plans for the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise at an event on February 27th.

MCVUK outed the upcoming event with a tweet earlier today: "We've been invited to a mysterious Assassin's Creed event on Feb 27th. Anyone else going? Any idea what's planned?"

Unfortunately, nobody knows what's actually going to happen, but it seems like a safe bet that the press will get their first glance at the next Assassin's Creed game. Earlier this month Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the next Assassin's Creed on track to come out in 2013. According to Guillemot the upcoming game will be "a major step forward" for the franchise with a new assassin, set in a new time period.

Having exhausted the credible information, it's time to speculate: Based on the timing and the fact that Ubisoft will hold a fully-fledged event for the announcement, it seems as if Ubisoft plans to show the game using next-gen hardware. Despite the popularity of the AC franchise, Ubisoft hasn't historically gathered the press for the solely to unveil past its entries. Sony is expected to reveal the next PlayStation at a press conference tomorrow, and Ubisoft, it seems, is in a position to lead the parade of next-gen game announcements that may follow suit.

As for content, rumors have indicated that, while it may feature a new setting, the nextAssassin's Creed may take advantage of mechanics established in ACIII. One Redditor claims to have seen marketing treatments forAssassin's Creed IV: Black Flags. Black Flags had previously been rumored to be DLC for Assassin's Creed III focusing on the game's naval combat sections.

We'll find out what the future holds for the Assassin's Creed series during the announcement next week!
