Some fans have given up hoping that "Half-Life 3" is happening soon as developer Valve continues to be mum about the franchise. It's been more than a decade since the last "Half-Life" game was release, but still the franchise is rumored to make a comeback.

According to PCGamesN, there's a possibility that Valve will finally unveil "Half-Life 3" next year at the Steam Dev Days 2017. The Steam Dev Days 2016 just ended last week and Valve announced more on hardware at the event, but the company confirmed that there will be software-related announcements next year that will surely please fans, the report stated. A specific title wasn't mentioned but fans are rooting for a new "Half-Life" game.

Meanwhile, a report from Valve News Network suggests that a new game in the franchise is already in the works. However, fans who are waiting for the third game installment might be disappointed as the report didn't mention "Half-Life 3," but a "Half-Life VR." A video by VNN explained that the VR version of the game could turn out to be legit and not just part of the rumor mill. Furthermore, it mentioned that assets from the original game were used as part of an experiment to run the game in VR mode.

A Steam VR app called Destinations also recently came out and data miners went through its files and found that there was a project called "HL:VR," Segment Next reported. In addition, the latest update for the app also leaked some codes that referenced weapons and other assets in "Half-Life VR." With all these leaks pointing to a VR game, it's likely that fans won't get any substantial updates on "Half-Life 3" soon. Even with the lack of updates on the third game, there's still the Steam Dev Days next year to look forward to.
