"Star Trek: Discovery" Air Date, News & Update: Back Into Space on CBS All Access in 2017, A Female On The Bridge

"Star Trek: Discovery " is all set for its gigantic comeback on the air space after its first debut on the TV screen 50 years ago. The show will premiere in 2017 on Netflix and CBS networks web streaming service or CBS All Access.

It was revealed by Digitaltrends that "Star Trek: Discovery" will re - appear on a space voyage on board the Discovery air ship. The use of the name springs from the National Aeronautics & Space Administration's (NASA) air ship. The ship was called Discovery and its journey was named Space Odyssey in 2001.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will be set in the background of the "Prime" universe. The show will go back 10 years earlier than the debut of the first "Star Trek" via the Enterprise space ship.

The show runner of "Star Trek: Discovery", Bryan Fuller declared that the show will have 13 episodes, instead of 10 as reported by TVLine. This is designed primarily to fit into the present viewers' life style of binge-watching.

Regarding the casting for "Star Trek: Discovery", Fuller revealed that a female character will join the space voyagers on the bridge. It was mentioned that Akiva Goldsman of the "Fringe" show will be taken for a higher up character.

The sad thing however is that Fuller will no longer be the show runner of "Star Trek: Discovery" as it comes back in May 2017. Instead two new show runners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg will take his place. However, Fuller assured the sci-fi viewers that he will remain as adviser and will continue to provide guidance in the series.
