‘SEGA Genesis’ Release Date, Price and Specs Update: See Why Brazil is Reviving the Retro Console

SEGA Genesis is back and Brazil is turning back the hands of time. Reports reveal that, the retro gaming platform is getting a kickstart in Brazil, primarily because the region still supports the gaming platform. Apparently, SEGA's gaming platform still sells over 150,000 pieces each year. The console, though initially reported to have a slightly different characteristic from the original one, reports reveal that it will have a very similar design to the original.

According to HighsNobiety, Brazil's TecToy was awarded the contract to manufacture the new SEGA Genesis. The company's Genesis product consists of integrated circuits that significantly copies the original specs of the console. The three controls will be retained and the memory will still store a total of 22 games.

The SEGA Genesis was originally released in North America in 1989. At the time, its biggest rival in the Nintendo wherein, it sported Mario as its trademark mascot while Genesis had Sonic, the blue hedgehog. As time changes, so are the gaming platforms wherein, SEGA was unable to compete with the trend. According to CNET, the brand then let go of the competition and existed as a third party developer.

Despite the demise, Brazil never let go of the SEGA Genesis and continued to support it by way of purchasing and actually using the platform. Today, SEGA finally gives in is now working hard to provide new units to its Brazilian fans.

Meanwhile, the SEGA Genesis gaming console is expected to launch on June 2017 for the market price of $138.
