John Lennon Wrote A Scathing Letter to Paul McCartney In Yoko Ono's Defense After The Beatles Disbanded; Now It Just Sold For $30,000

The Beatles, the legendary rock band that took over the world with their hits in 1960's, is still making headlines today. The fab four from Liverpool is no doubt one of America's best-selling artists with 178 million certified units sold.

RR Auctions on its November 2016 Music and Entertainment Auction put John Lennon's type written and hand-annotated letter. It came from an anonymous owner and was verified genuine by the said auction house. It is a scathing correspondence written by John Lennon to couple Paul and Linda McCartney and was sold for almost $29,843.45.

The undated letter is believed to have been written by Lennon sometime in 1971. It was written shortly before Yoko Ono and Lennon left for America.

Executive VP Robert Livingston was quoted by the New York Post saying that the letter captures the strong competition between Lennon and McCartney in the months and years adjoining the breakup of The Beatles. The letter is interesting, considering the degree of contempt directed toward McCartney and his wife for their apparent cruelty to Lennon's wife Yoko Ono.

In the letter, Lennon said his wife, Ono suffered recurrent disgusting deeds from those kind and unselfish friends. He also clarified that he was weary of always being viewed as the bigger person in the situation.

The letter was a response to a correspondence in which Linda chided Lennon for being mum about his choice to leave The Beatles in 1970. John Lennon's reply emphasized that his actions were merely following the manager Allen Klein and Linda and Paul's advice.

Paul McCartney confirmed the existing of a conflict between him and John Lennon. He said that they have already reconciled prior to Lennon's death in 1980, as reported by CNBC
