The Zen-based Summit Ridge processors from AMD are reportedly launching next year. Latest leaks have also surfaced, giving tech enthusiasts an idea what the new lineup from AMD will bring to the table.
According to Chinese sources, AMD Summit Ridge processors will make their debut in January 2017, most probably at the CES 2017. Leaks found at the Chiphell forum, via (WCCFTech) also revealed the names that these new chipsets will probably bear - SR3, SR5, and SR7, which is comparable to the Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 series.
The Country Caller presumes that the SR3 is the entry-level version of the AMD Summit Ridge processors. The SR5 is the mid-tier and the SR7 is presumed to be the high-end version of the three. The SR5 is expected to be a hexa-core processor, while the SR7 is said to cater to the hardcore tech enthusiast.
AMD hasn't confirmed details of the Summit Ridge processors' specs, but it is rumored to be at par with the Intel Core i7-6850K CPU. The Zen-based SR7 is said to have eight cores and 16 threads. To compare, Intel has 6 cores and 12 threads - that should be a significantly powerful chipset from AMD. The Summit Ridge chipset is also reportedly enhanced for 3.15 to 3.30 GHz for its base clock and a boost clock speed of 3.5 GHz. These clock speed readings have not been confirmed by the company so readers should still take this information with a pinch of salt.
The leaks also suggest that the AMD Summit Ridge processors will at least cost around $250. The SR5 and SR7 are rumored to have similar specs and quality, and both are expected to be priced between $300 and $320.
Fans of the AMD chipsets are most probably trying to get ready for the new AMD Zen-based Summit Ridge processor lineup. Will the company deliver an outstanding chipset that delivers impressive performance for a competitive price? Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more updates.
