After a well-received stint in the season prior to "Gotham" season 3, people did not really expect Cameron Monaghan to come back to "Shameless" season 7. The 23-year old actor has earned praise for his portrayal of Jerome Valeska in the DC Comics prequel adaptation.
When Entertainment Weekly reported that Showtime ordered "Shameless" season 7, speculation was rife that Monaghan will be leaving to prioritize "Gotham" season 3. After all, network television shows have bigger audiences when compared to cable shows and as a young actor, "Gotham" season 3 will open up a lot more career opportunities for him.
In fact, according to TV Line, Cameron Monaghan has already confirmed that he will be back in "Gotham" season 3 next year. Because of this, he is once again rumored that he will be announcing that he will exit "Shameless" season 7. While it has not been confirmed yet, his departure in one of his many projects on television makes sense as the "Amityville: The Awakening" actor is trying to expand his filmography. Even if he does not leave "Shameless" season 7, he will have to give up one of his television shows so he can concentrate on other projects.
You can watch the next episode of "Shameless" season 7 on Sunday, December 4, at 9 pm ET on Showtime. "Gotham" season 3, on the other hand, will be having a winter break and will come back on Monday, January 16, 2017, 9 pm ET on NBC.
