‘Pokemon GO’ Latest News & Update: How To Hatch The New Baby Pokemon; Evolutions, Required Distances Revealed

Niantic has revealed the first major expansion for "Pokemon GO" and it includes some truly adorable "baby" Pokemon. These new Pokemon are Igglybuff, Pichu, Cleffa, Togepi, Smoochum, Magby, and Elekid.

The new "Pokemon GO" cuties are pre-evolved versions of Pokemon that have already been discovered. Unlike regular Pokemon, they are hatched from Eggs and are not found in the wild. Igglybuff evolves into Jigglypuff, Pichu evolves into Pikachu, Cleffa evolves into Clefairy, Smoochum evolves into Jynx, Elekid evolves into Electabuzz, and Magby evolves into Magmar. Unlike the rest of the baby Pokemon, Togepi doesn't evolve into a Gen 1 Pokemon; instead, he evolves into the Gen 2 Pokemon Togetic.

These smaller Pokemon can be added to players' collections only by hatching them from new Eggs. According to Heavy, Eggs that were obtained before the Gen 2 update for "Pokemon GO" was released will not hatch the new baby Pokemon that were introduced with the update. Instead, trainers still have to let these old Eggs hatch to make room for the new Gen 2 Eggs that they will be picking up at Pokestops. The outlet explains that the identity of a Pokemon inside a specific Egg is only assigned or determined at the exact moment the trainer gets it from the Pokestop. As such, Eggs that were taken before the update dropped could not possibly contain the new Pokemon.

Once all the old Eggs have been hatched, "Pokemon GO" players can get down to collecting the new Eggs. To do this, they simply have to go to a Pokestop and give the thing a spin. Spin again if an Egg doesn't appear. Walking in circles around a Pokestop also reportedly works. Once players have an Egg, they should assign it to an incubator on the Egg screen and get moving. Once Eggs are hatched, the distance a trainer walks will determine which baby Pokemon is obtained. 2 kilometers will reportedly yield either an Igglybuff or a Cleffa while 5 kilometers will yield a Pichu or a Togepi. Ten-kilometer Eggs will reportedly hatch an Elekid or a Smoochum or a Magby.
