Call of Duty Ghosts Free Multiplayer Weekend Starts This Friday On Xbox 360, One

Activision Offers Free COD Ghosts Multiplayer Weekend for Xbox Gamers

Activison has just sent over word that for the first time in Call of Duty history, Activision and Infinity Ward will be hosting a free multiplayer demo of the game. The demo will only be available on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, from Friday March 7th at 10:00 (PST) to Monday March 10th.

The demo will include three multiplayer maps - Strikezone, Warhawk, and Prison break; three multiplayer modes - Search & Rescue, Domination and Team Deathmatch; and the original Extinction game mode - Point of Contact. All you need to do is download the demo and you can start playing right away, as long as you're an Xbox Live Gold subsccriber.

Maybe this is their way of saying "Don't worry, Xbox gamers. You're still special to us." now that the Onslaught DLC is available for all the competitors as well, folowing Xbox's one month of exclusivity.

Of course, the Call of Duty series is no stranger to putting out demos long after release. Demos costs valuable money and resources that a studio needs when trying to hit that all-important release date, after all, and with a franchise as big as Call of Duty it's debatable whether you even need a demo to sell copies. Everyone knows how it plays. But months later they typically put one together to give people a taste of the game- just nothing like this. The chance to play some of the multiplayer, the most celebrated portion of this installment, is a pretty smart idea. Let's see if console games start doing this more often- Steam offers free weekends all the time to great success, so it would make sense for the next-gen consoles to start doing the same.
