'Dead by Daylight' Announces Crossover with Japanese Horror Movie 'The Ring'

Behavior Interactive announced that they partnered with the Japanese media company Kadokawa to bring in the elements of the horror novel-turned-movie "The Ring" to Death by Daylight with the new chapter, "Sadako Rising."

The new chapter for the multiplayer online horror survival game will bring in the new Killer, Sadako, and Survivor, Asakawa Yoichi. Both of them are revealed in a trailer uploaded on the game's YouTube channel.

According to Techraptor, Imayasu Reiko, a producer from Kadokawa, described Sadako as a tragic yet beautiful woman that will pull any unsuspected victim into her quiet terror.

On the other hand, the addition of Asakawa Yoichi, who is one of the characters in the original movie and the son of its original protagonist, Asakawa Reiko, will allow long-time fans of the horror movie to reconnect with the character.

In the game, Yoichi, now a marine biologist, is searching for answers in a realm that is beyond rational understanding.

According to a post on the game's website, Imayasu said they are excited about the collaboration between the company and Behavior Interactive as they are sending Sadako to pour down horrors in Dead by Daylight.

She also praised the developers for doing a good job in bringing her signature long black hair and white dress while representing her characteristics in the game.

She even added that the Survivors should beware as the new Killer will strike them and make them tremble with fear.

According to Shacknews, Dave Richard, the creative director of Dead by Daylight, said that working with Kadokawa has been a lot of fun as they receive information about The Ring universe, including its characters and stories that they love.

This helped them make the right choices and understand their rules correctly while working on the game's new chapter.

He also added that Sadako Rises would bring a special new type of feeling to the game as it will bring a different psychological horror vibe to Dead by Daylight from its usual slasher style that its players used to.

Finally, Richard assured that Sadako will bring creepy and surprising gameplay mechanics that they did not find in other Killers.

Sadako will be the 32nd Killer that will be included in Dead by Daylight, joining the ranks of other characters from horror movies and videos games such as Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, Pinhead from Hellraiser, Michael Myers from Halloween, Freddy Krugger from A Nightmare from Elm Street, and Nemesis T-Type from Resident Evil.

The Ring was first released as a Japanese mystery horror novel in 1991 by Suzuki Koji.

It was then adapted into a live-action action movie in Japan in 1998. It was later inspired into a series of films, including the 2002 American remake of the same title, television shows, and manga adaptations.

The movie revolves around an urban legend of the cursed tapes, where people who watched them will die seven days after they receive a phone call.
