How To Save Mordin In Mass Effect 3

Here's How To Save Mordin In Mass Effect 3: A Guide

(SPOILER ALERT! TURN BACK NOW!)

One can argue that Mass Effect 3 has probably one of the saddest (and most traumatizing) character deaths in all of video games: the passing of universally beloved character Mordin Solus.

The fast-talking, witty Salarian scientist has endeared himself to so many fans of the series, with a lot of them sobbing uncontrollably when he goes off to sacrifice himself in order to cure the Genophage. But it doesn't always have to be that way. Yes, the title is right: you can actually save his life in ME3 by making several right (or perhaps even wrong) choices. And this is the guide you need for that.

The 'Best' Path Starts With ME1

A lot of Mass Effect fans would agree that there is only one "morally correct" path to saving Mordin in ME3. But it still involves having to kill off another fan favorite character, so be sure to weigh your options here.

According to GameRant, things will begin as early as ME1. The easiest path to keeping our favorite Salarian scientist alive is by killing Wrex on Virmire. He will be pissed off at the fact that Saren's cloning facility on the planet houses the potential cure for the Genophage. And being more or less a Krogan nationalist, Wrex doesn't want the facility destroyed.

Pick the Renegade options (Red choices, and the choices at the bottom of the dialog wheel) when dealing with Wrex. Either Shepard or Ashley can take him out, as shown in this video featuring all the variations of Wrex's death:

Killing off Wrex will ensure that his brother, Wreav, will be the de-facto leader of the Krogan faction by the time Mass Effect 2 and 3 rolls around. This is where your quest to learn how to save Mordin in Mass Effect 3 begins.

Mordin's Loyalty Mission

The next biggest thing you must do is complete Mordin's loyalty mission in ME2, titled Mordin: Old Blood. By doing so, you help ensure that he survives the Suicide Mission (provided you also use him as a main squadmate the entire time OR have him escort Dr. Chakwas and the surviving crew back to the Normandy).

During his loyalty mission on Tuchanka, you have to make one critical choice: destroy Maelon's data on the Genophage, writes ScreenRant. This is to ensure that the female Krogan Eve dies in ME3, even if the cure won't be sabotaged. Do that, and you would've set things up correctly for the next game.

How To Save Mordin In Mass Effect 3: CRITICAL Choices

Now, onto the last game on your journey to learning how to save Mordin in Mass Effect 3.

During the mission Priority: Tuchanka, Mordin will be dead-set on curing the Genophage as a way of "atoning" for his involvement in making it more potent. But because Wreav is in charge and Eve won't be around to control his warlike tendencies (she dies as he makes the cure), it would be easier to convince Mordin to NOT cure the Genophage before he goes up to the Shroud's control room.

Here's where it's interesting, though. BEFORE you even go to the Shroud, the Salarian Dalatrass will contact Shepard and reveal that the cure dispersal mechanism has been sabotaged. Not even Mordin knows about this. This would clearly make Shepard think. On the shuttle with Wreav and Eve, you will be prompted to pick whether to reveal the sabotage or not. DO NOT REVEAL THE SABOTAGE.

Mordin will then bring Eve to the Shroud to synthesize the cure. There, Eve dies. He even says that her absence, with Wreav as the sole leader for the Krogan, will be problematic and could lead to another galactic war. He'll eventually find out about the sabotage, and you'll have to make the Paragon (blue) or Renegade (red) choices to convince him not to go through with it, as shown here in this video:

By convincing Mordin not to cure the Genophage, the Krogan will believe the cure was real, and they'd agree to ally with Shepard agains the Reapers regardless. But this sequence of choices comes with a welcome bonus: extra War Assets from the Salarians, so it was like hitting two birds with one stone.

If you're worried that Wreav will find out about the deception, don't be. He's too dumb to even notice. That's the difference between him and his brother Wrex. So in the end, you get the maximum number of War Assets, and best of it all, Mordin survives.

And that's it! That's how to save Mordin in Mass Effect 3!
