Fortnite Festival Season 3 Lets Players Use Old Rock Band 4 Guitar Controllers

Fortnite Festival season 3 will let players use their old Rock Band 4 guitar controllers across various platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Players who have a compatible plastic guitar can use it to play new Pro Lead and Pro Bass parts in any Jam Track.

These parts also feature color-coded notes for each lane that match those on the guitar controller. They also have hammer-on and pull-off notes, similar to what was seen in Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Epic Games bought Rock Band developer Harmonix in 2021 in order to build music experiences for Fortnite.

The company also plans to add support for more peripherals in the future and many fans are hoping that the developers will make the whammy bar more useful other than just triggering a visual effect.

Previously, Epic Games said that it planned to add support for Rock Band guitars. Earlier this year, third-party peripheral maker PDP revealed a new Xbox and PlayStation wireless guitar controller for Rock Band 4 and Fortnite Festival, according to Engadget.

The addition of support for the Rock Band peripherals comes as Billie Eilish just recently joined Fortnite as the game's new music icon. Several of the artist's songs are available to be bought and used in the Fortnite Festival.

Players will most likely buy an Eillish outfit or unlock one through a secondary battle pass and play as the singer in the Battle Royale mode. Epic Games also added a setting that allows players to hide certain emotes that other people have often used to troll in the game mode.

One example is that after a player has been eliminated, others may not want to see a rival using the "Take the L" emote. This particular emote involves making the shape of an L on their forehead and doing a silly dance.

Support for Rock Band Peripherals

The supported controllers in Fortnite Festival season 3 include the Riffmaster Wireless Guitar Controller, Rock Band 4 Rivals Wireless Fender Jaguar Guitar, and Rock Band 4 Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar, said The Verge.

All of these guitar controllers can be used for playing both lead and bass guitar in the Fortnite Festival. Epic Games also said that they will provide more news about instrument controllers in the future.

In Fortnite Festival's Main Stage, players can either play by themselves or with three friends to choose a song while trying to button-mash and get as high a score as possible before the end of the tune.

Fortnite Festival first launched in December last year and received criticism from critics and players primarily due to the price of the songs and the lack of support for instrument controllers.

Harmonix studio director Alex Rigopulos said a few days after that they were prioritizing support for game peripherals.

In a review of Fortnite Festival, Luke Reilly gave it a 4/10, saying that the new game mode is simply just Rock Band on a gamepad. He added that it felt a little like playing a light gun game on an analog stick, according to IGN.
